About 3 hours south of me is a photographer by the name of Lynsey Stone. Her subject matter is part of a growing trend in baby photography. She films and records the actual moment of birth. And she is no beginner at this either. With over 200 births in the archives, you can certainly say she is a pro.
I found her by stumbling across a New York Times article, and will be reaching out to her for an interview. I think she would be fascinating to talk to and find out how she got started, and what tips she can give if you wanted to get into this yourself.
One of the things I found out about her is that she really has to do a lot of prep work with her scheduling. For instance, when she goes to a family outing, she has to take a separate car just in case she gets a call. She has to plan her vacations out 10 months in advance. Her cell phone even goes into the bathroom with her and sits near the shower lest she miss a very important phone call.
Wow.
Now I know you have a lot of questions. Like, where do you stand? Doesn't the hospital have a policy about no pictures? The best person to answer those questions would be her. I will do my best to see if I can arrange an interview. Keep your fingers crossed. Until then, enjoy these few images from her website. And if you want, head there and you can read that New York Times article yourself right off of her blog.
