Starry Night Shot Took 2 Years Of Waiting

The above image captured by Luc Perrot took two years of waiting to capture. Not only did it have to be the right time of year to allow the Milky Way to rise in this precise location, but the sky had to be clear, and with no moon present. The image was captured on Reunion Island. A French Island off the south East corner of Africa. The body of water you see in the foreground is a water filled crater, and the peak in the background is the highest point on the island. The image was chosen as a photo of the day by NASA on one of their many websites. You can see the photographer's Facebook page describing the wait for this shot here. But you will need to read French to understand it. Click the image to open it bigger.

Thanks, Bill Perry, for the link.
