One of the largest repository of images is Getty Images. Getty has partnerships with Flickr to allow users to sell their photos as stock photos. They also have embraced the micro stock market by pushing prices lower in their contracts with photographers and even purchasing iStockphoto.com. The sale to the Carlyle Group for a whopping 3.3 Billion dollars makes this the largest image purchase ever.
The transaction also increases Mark Getty and Jonathan Klein's control over the company.
Yes. I did really say that the purchase price was $1,000,000,000,000.00 dollars. That is enough zeros to equip 125 million photographers with Nikon D4 cameras with 70-200 F/2.8 VR II lenses attached. Shipping included. Where do people get that kind of money??? And why won't they give me some???
