If the rumor mill is to believed, the answer is yes. It seems some websites that live off of rumors of upcoming gear are all reporting about a new medium format camera from Canon that will be debuted next month at Photokina. I find this one a bit hard to swallow. The reason being that the rumor also states it will be compatible with most EF lenses.
That is where the rumor goes off course for me. The circle would be too small for a medium format sensor, and would require that you run the camera in a "Cropped" mode. Meaning you would not be using the full sensor. Only a smaller part. What's the point, you may ask? Well an argument could be made for people owning those lenses already, transitioning over would be easier.
But Canon would have to be committed to making a whole new line up of pro grade lenses. I am not so sure they would be committed to that with all of the other projects they have recently taken on. A whole new mirrorless segment, cinema DSLR and lenses. Cinema cameras to compete with the likes of RED, etc.
Weill know soon enough, I guess....
