I got slammed for making fun of the first photo coming from mars on landing. How it was low res and not with any of the other 17 more sophisticated cameras on the 2.5 Billion Dollar rover. And in grainy black and white. Well this is one of the better cameras in full high resolution. Shooting through the dust cover... I am sorry but am I the only one seeing humor in all of this? There are 17 cameras for crying out loud. The first one I could say, sure I get it. Just a quick snap on a low res image to ensure touchdown went OK. But 2.5 billion dollars and a team of rocket scientist and we are still shooting through a lens cap.
That's not funny to you? Really?
And don't write me emails about how they have to take their time and do everything slow, it takes 18 minutes for a signal to even reach the planet, yadda yadda yadda... I get it. I am not a rocket scientist. But it's still funny! Through the lens cap... HA! I do that every time I pick up my camera.
The dust cover is expected to come off soon, and hopefully we will see some great pics. And yes I know the dust cover is not the same thing as a lens cap. IT'S HUMOR, PEOPLE!
