The Nikon full frame D600.
The D600 will be a 24MP entry level camera into the full frame world, and if the rumor holds true, it will grace our presence at $1500. And THAT will set the camera world on it's ear. Why? Because Nikon's biggest competitor, Canon, will see Nikon having 2 full frame cameras under well under the price of a 5DMarkIII.
The 5DMarkIII is a formidable beast, for sure. If you own one, the only way I could wrestle it out of your hands is to shoot you first. But the cost of that camera is going for $3450.00 right now. The D800 costs $450 less at $2,999.00. (I have no idea what technology and capability sits in the 5DMarkIII that warrants that price difference.... And I shoot Canon.) Let's say the rumors are wrong, and the D600 hits is at even $1999.00, that will be an almost $1500 difference in price. If it hits us at $1500, then that is almost $2,000.00 difference in price.
AWESOME!!! CANON USERS REJOICE!
Why is that awesome for Canon users?, because I think it will leave Canon no choice to start dropping the price to stay competitive. It won't happen at first, of course, 5D3 cameras are flying off of the shelf everywhere. But they will have to start dropping the price. Probably in the form of rebates at first. At least to get it down to the D800 price. They will have to do this to ensure that Canon users don't jump ship.
Now here is the expected spec list that has been circulating around the net, and we are pretty sure it is correct. Expect to see the announcement sooner than 2 weeks, with a full unveil at Photokina to follow.
