570 Mega Pixel Camera Captures First Pics

http://thetechjournal.com/
The camera is mounted to the massive Victor M. Blanco telescope in Chile. It is designed to capture images that will hopefully help scientist understand dark energy and the expanding universe.

The sensor array measures a few feet across. It is called an array because it is not one sensor, but 62 CCD sensors coupled together.

The camera comes complete with it's own photo filters in different shades of red, green, and blue, all designed to help isolate and record different spectrums of light. The filters themselves are the size of a manhole cover.

Total cost of this bad boy? Just over $50,000,000.00 Or 50 million dollars.

Guess I won't be ordering one of these off of Amazon....
