A week ago we ran a story showing a photographer suspending himself on a ladder that was in turn suspended off the side of a cliff. We asked the question, "What would you do for the shot?"
Well here is another question for you: What has happened to you while going for the shot?
Mike Grandsmaison answers that by telling his story on how he captured the below double rainbow shot. He was working on capturing images for his coffee table book called "Prairies and Beyond". He had just wrapped up a successful day of shooting, and was heading back home, when a late afternoon rain began to subside and reveal the below double rainbow.
Double rainbows happen all the time, but they seldom stick around long enough for you to shoot them. So when Mike saw the scene unfold, he quickly pulled to the side of the road, yanked his tripod mounted camera from the vehicle and started sprinting for the field and some hay bales located there. He intended to jump the ditch separating the field from the road. And that is where things went awry.
He ended up face planted on the other side of the ditch with the sound of a sickening crunch echoing in his ear. Was it a limb? A slow and careful examination showed that aside for some bruises and scrapes, he was fine. So was the camera. The crunch came from his glasses. Those were useless.
He hurried back for a back up pair, put them on, and still managed to get the shot. And it is a good one.
So back to my question for you. What kind of stories can you tell?
